3 1 Task Typical Installation

Installing LANSA on IBM i

3.1 Task: Typical Installation

The Typical Installation is the quickest and easiest way to install a new LANSA system on an IBM i.

When you use the Typical Installation:

  • LANSA for i is installed
  • A complete single tier LANSA for the Web is installed
  • A system partition will be installed with library and partition names commencing with DCX but if you need to, you can change the Library prefix to some other three characters, as described in 3.1.2 Call the Installation Program.
Do not use Q as the first character of the library prefix as it is used by IBM namespace of Qxxxxx.
  • The LANSA Communication Extensions are automatically configured and ready to use
  • IBM HTTP Server Instance ( Apache) is fully initialized and ready to use.

The default options selected for you result in a number of objects being loaded onto your IBM i. You will find a list of these objects in the topic Summary of Installed Objects. Please check that they suit your site.

If you would prefer not to accept the Typical Installation default options, then you can use the 3.2 Task: Custom Installation which allows you to customize the install options to suit your requirements.

The Typical Installation task includes the following steps:

3.1.1 Before You Begin Checklist

3.1.2 Call the Installation Program

3.1.3 Typical Installation Summary

3.1.4 Verify Typical Installation

Note that you cannot:

  • run a Typical install twice nor can you create new partitions. If either is required, you would use a Custom install.
  • use a Typical install to install LANSA into an IASP. In this case you must use a custom install.

Once you have completed the installation, go to LANSA License Codes.
