2 2 3 General Installation Upgrade Requirements Checklist

Installing LANSA on IBM i

2.2.3 General Installation/Upgrade Requirements Checklist

Before starting the LANSA for i installation/upgrade, complete this checklist. Do you have:

  • The correct version of the LANSA IBM i Product software?
  • A RISC IBM i at an IBM supported IBM i operating system release level?
  • The device name of the IBM i DVD/CD-ROM drive? (Default is often OPT01)
  • The appropriate LANSA licenses for components and options being installed?
  • Have you selected a library name prefix if the default library name prefix (DCX) is already in use?
Note: Do not use Q as the first character of the library prefix as it is used by IBM namespace of Qxxxxx.
  • Access to the QSECOFR user id? (This is the recommended identifier to be used when installing or upgrading the LANSA software.) The use of other profiles or the removal of the special authorities will cause security and integrity alterations to the installed system.
If you do not have access to QSECOFR for the installation, you will need to create one with the same permission as QSECOFR.
  • If you are installing LANSA for the Web, have you decided on a single-tier or multi-tier installation?
  • If you are not using the default IFS directories, have you created the directories that you want to use? (They must exist before you can use them in the install.)
  • Does the IBM supplied default job description QDFTJOBD exist? The install/upgrade will end if it does not exist.

Installation Notes

Following are some tips, techniques and considerations for new installations:

  • The install/upgrade will use the following commands from the QSYS library regardless of any other libraries you may have created:
  • CRTLIB – Create Library
  • MD – Create IFS directory
  • CRTJOBQ – Create job queue
  • CRTJOBD – Create job description
  • CRTSBSD – Create subsystem
  • CRTUSRPRF – Create user profile

  • The LANSA installation will create a user profile named QOTHPRDOWN. This profile owns the LANSA system. Do not modify the authority rights of QOTHPRDOWN until you have completed the installation. Refer to If QOTHPRDOWN Profile is not used as your Product Owner for actions you must take after the installation is completed.
  • Do not install LANSA for i into libraries already containing user objects.
  • Do not create objects of your own in the main LANSA for i program or data libraries. (That is: DCXPGMLIB, DCXDTALIB or their equivalents.)
  • Arrange and test your back up procedures before making any use of a LANSA for i system.
