Installing LANSA on IBM i

Should I Use the Typical or Custom Installation?

The LANSA software installation program provides two types of installations: Typical and Custom.

Note: You CANNOT use these install options to upgrade existing LANSA components.

Typical Installation

This option will install, with the minimum of intervention:

  • A brand new LANSA system
  • Both LANSA for i and LANSA for the Web
  • The IBM HTTP Server powered by Apache with CGI to access data

You can use the Typical Install with both single-tier and multi-tier LANSA for the Web deployment models. (For multi-tier, you must follow the Typical Install with a Custom Install to install the Web Server Only components on the Web Server.)

Custom Installation

The Custom install allows you to select the installation components, parameters and options, rather than using the default settings selected for you in the Typical install.

You will use this option if you meet ANY of the following criteria:

  • Installing a brand new LANSA for i system
  • Installing LANSA for the Web for the first time
  • Installing the Web Server Only components in a multi-tier LANSA for the Web installation
  • Installing the LANSA Open System Utilities
  • Installing LANSA Integrator.

The Custom option allows you to install more than one software component at a time. Refer to the Software Installation Combinations in the Custom LANSA for i Installations.
