Card Reader

The software has a built in swipe card reader which can be used to read a patient's medicare number and the medicare valid to date.

To modify the card reader settings please select administration from the main menu and then select card reader from the settings sub menu.

The settings for the card reader will be displayed to you.

The default settings will be present from before.

Users do not need to change any other settings for reading the medicare number of a patient from a medicare card except for the port if needed.

Please select the correct port where your card reader is plugged to.

You can test the port with the test button.

If the software does not find a port, an appropriate message will be displayed.

How to use the card reader

The card reader will help you to automatically populate the patient's medicare number and the medicare valid to date on an appropriate form. Currently the forms where you will be able to use the card reader are -

1. Patient Registration form
2. Details node of the patient clinical profile form
3. Patient Search form

If you do not want to use the card reader, you can deactivate it using the checkbox at the top of the settings form.

A compatible card reader has to be plugged in to your computer before you can use this feature of the software.
