Installing Reporting Services on 64-bit Computers

SQL Server Setup

New: 5 December 2005

The 64-bit editions of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 include Reporting Services. The following table summarizes special considerations for the different types of 64-bit architectures.

Architecture Special Considerations

x64

SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services is fully supported on x64 operating systems.

You can install and run all server and client components of Reporting Services on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 with service pack 1.

The operating system, service pack, and the SQL Server edition you are installing must be 64-bit versions.

IA64

This platform is intended for production servers. There is no support for integrated Report Designer or Model Designer in Business Intelligence Development Studio. The design tools are not available for installation on this architecture.

Microsoft Windows-32-on-Windows-64 (WOW64) subsystem

You can run the 32-bit versions of the Reporting Services ASP.NET applications in WOW64. You must specify settings in IIS to enable this configuration. For more information, see How to: Configure IIS to Run 32-bit Reporting Services in WOW64 Mode.

Note:
SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services is not supported on any 64-bit platform. Although SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 4 introduced support for the Microsoft Windows-32-on-Windows-64 (WOW64) subsystem, support for WOW64 does not extend to SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services.
