I can't find or delete a data source.

Data sources that were created with earlier versions of Microsoft Query   Data sources that were created with versions of Microsoft Query earlier than Query 97 have an asterisk next to the data source name. All data sources, including new ones that are created with Query 2000 and later, are stored as files with file name extension .dsn. To list data sources that were created with earlier versions of Query, click Options in the Choose Data Source dialog box (File menu, New command), and then select the Include registry DSNs in list of available databases check box. If these data sources are stored in the default location, you can select them in the Choose Data Source dialog box and then click Delete.

Locations for data source files   Data source files from earlier versions of Microsoft Query are usually stored in the ODBC Datasources folder in the Common Files folder. Data source files for Query 2000 and later are stored in your user profile folder in Application Data\Microsoft\Queries. To see what folders are used to store data source files, click New Query , click the Databases tab, and then click Options.

Find and delete the data source file   You can find and delete data source files by doing the following:

  • Use the Windows Control Panel   If all data source files are in the Common Files\ODBC Datasources folder or your user profile folder, double-click the ODBC Data Sources (32bit) icon in Control Panel, or on Microsoft Windows 2000 systems, double-click Administrative Tools and then double-click Data Sources (ODBC). Click the File DSN tab, and then use the Remove button to delete any .dsn files that you don't want.
  • Search for .dsn files   If data source files are in several folders in Windows, use the Microsoft Windows Find command to search for all files with file name extension .dsn, and then delete any files that you don't want.
