Microsoft Word Documents
Microsoft Word documents are saved as single HTML files. Word- and Office-specific data is stored in Extensible Markup Language (XML) embedded in the HEAD element of the HTML file. Formatting and attributes of the contents of paragraphs and tables are preserved by style classes. Elements that cannot be covered by standard HTML CSS style attributes are covered by Microsoft Office-specific attributes. When Word saves a document to HTML, it preserves named styles by creating style definitions in the STYLE element and applying those styles with the class attribute whenever possible.
