Find and replace text
Use Microsoft Office InfoPath 2003 to quickly find and replace text on your form.
Note When filling out a form, the Find and Replace features only search the text you have typed into a form and not text that is a part of the form template, such as field labels.
In Office InfoPath 2003 you can search for every occurrence of a specific word or phrase on a form.
- On the Edit menu, click Find.
- In the Find what box in the Find task pane, type the text that you want to search the form for.
- Select any other options that you want.
Note Selecting to search up or down will either search the form from end to beginning or beginning to end respectively.
- Click
Find Next.
To cancel a search in progress, press ESC.

Search options
You can use the wildcard characters ? and * to help you find and replace text. For example, use the asterisk (*) wildcard to search for a string of characters ("s*d" finds "sad" and "started") and use the question mark (?) to find any single character ("s?t" finds "sat" and "set".
- On the Edit menu, click Find or Replace.
- In the Find or Replace task pane, select the Use wildcards check box.
- Type a wildcard character in the Find what box.
- If you want to replace the item, type what you want to use as a replacement in the Replace with box.
- Click
Find Next,
Replace, or
Replace All.
To cancel a search in progress, press ESC.
- To search for a character that's defined as a wildcard, type a backslash (\) before the character. For example, type \? to find a question mark.
Search using matching letter case
You can increase your chances of finding only the specific word you want to find or replace by using matching case as a search option. The Match case option only looks for text that has the exact letter capping that you specify in the Find box. For example, if you type AJ in the Find box and Match case is selected as a search option, Office InfoPath 2003 will only find instances of AJ and will not return any occurance of aj.
- On the Edit menu, click Find or Replace.
- In the Find what box in the Find or Replace task pane, type the text that you want to search the form for.
- Select the Match case check box.
- If you want to replace the item, type what you want to use as a replacement in the Replace with box.
- Click
Find Next,
Replace, or
Replace All.
To cancel a search in progress, press ESC.
