When you are working in a design program, you can get help in the following ways:
- Design program Help For information about the commands and features available in the design program that you can use to work with PivotTable lists, see Help in the design program. For example, in Microsoft FrontPage, click the Office Assistant, or click Microsoft FrontPage Help
.
Microsoft Excel provides both general Help about saving Excel data for use on Web pages, and specific information about saving PivotTable lists for use on Web pages. To access this Help in Excel, click the Office Assistant, or click Microsoft Excel Help .
- PivotTable list design-time Help If you have access to the Commands and Options dialog box in another design program, you have access to the Help topics you are viewing now. In a PivotTable list that you have created or activated in a design program, click Help in the Commands and Options dialog box or click Help on the PivotTable list toolbar.
Getting help with writing programs and scripts for PivotTable lists
You can use scripts and programs to automate PivotTable lists, or you can include PivotTable lists in run-time programs other than Web browsers, such as programs developed using Microsoft Visual Basic.
Writing scripts
Microsoft Office programs provide the Microsoft Script Editor to help you write scripts. For example, when working with data access pages in Microsoft Access, you can use the Script Editor in Design view to customize a PivotTable list. For information about running the Script Editor, see Help in your Microsoft Office design program. In the Script Editor, you can display additional Help about using its features and writing scripts.
Object model Help
For help developing a program or script to work with a PivotTable list, you can use the Microsoft Office Web Components Visual Basic Reference to display information about the object model, properties, and methods specific to PivotTable lists. This object model Help is installed when you install the Microsoft Office Web Components, of which the PivotTable Component is one. Depending on the design program you're using, you can get this Help in either of two ways:
- Help in Microsoft Visual Basic In Visual Basic or Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), you can create a reference to the Microsoft Office Web Components library. You can then get Help in the object browser or by selecting a keyword and pressing F1. For information about creating references and using object model Help, see Help in Visual Basic or VBA.
- Help in other environments If you are using another development environment, locate and double-click the Help file Owcvba10.chm.
Getting help when using a PivotTable list in a browser
In the browser, Help is available for users from within a PivotTable list. This run-time Help explains how to use the features and capabilities of PivotTable lists in the browser.
For users who have Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 with Service Pack 2 (SP2) or later, and the Microsoft Office Web Components, Help specific to PivotTable lists is automatically available. The run-time Help is separate from the Help available from the browser's Help menu.
The run-time PivotTable list Help topics provide general information for all users about using PivotTable lists in the browser. These are not the same topics as the PivotTable list design Help topics you are reading now. Other Microsoft Office Web Components, such as the Spreadsheet Component, also have their own separate Help available in the browser.
To see what Help is provided in the browser, create a PivotTable list on a Web page, open the Web page in Internet Explorer, click the PivotTable list, and then click Help on the toolbar in the PivotTable list. In the Help window, you can view a table of contents and search the topic text. The Office Assistant is not available in the browser to answer questions.
Users who do not have the Office Web Components and Internet Explorer 5.01 with Service Pack 2 (SP2) or later do not have access to run-time Help.
