Intray

Click Reports > Results > Download results

The Intray lists results delivered in HL7 and Pitt format delivered from

  1. pathology labs
  2. radiology clinics
  3. hospital discharge summaries

When a result is reviewed by a doctor the system allows two courses of action with that particular result.

1/ If the result is checked "marked seen" then the result is delivered straight to the patients file in the database and it will leave the Intray once the Intray form is closed.

2/ If the result is instead, marked either "Discuss" or "Recall" then the result is also delivered straight to the patients file in the database but the result is also copied to the Follow-up Tray.  This allows these particular results to be put to one side so that they can be reviewed later.

A staffcode must be entered to authorize handling of results in the pathology intray. This way the system can determine which doctor authorized the clearance of the result from the Intray.

When the results are being parsed, the patient names are then checked against all the patient names in the database.

If a precise match is found, then the result is coloured in black.
If a close match is found, then the result is coloured in blue.
If no match is found then the result is coloured in red.

A pathology result which has not matched a patient in the database cannot be marked as seen.

To view the details of the pathology result, double click the result.
Results which have not yet been viewed are displayed in bold on the grid.

The system allows a user to mark a result as seen and then close the Intray without actually viewing the result, but this is not advised.

The system requires a staffkey to be entered to determine which doctor has assessed the results.  This allows for later audits if necessary.

A result cannot be "marked seen" unless the patient is in the database. The patient can be added to the system as a new patient at this stage if the patient has not yet visited the practice.

The following results form is displayed once you double click on any result from the Intray. At this stage the Intray form will remain disabled till you close the results form.

If a blood group value is found in the pathology result, then the update button is shown to the user.

You can click the update button to store the blood group value on the clinical profile form of the patient. The system will not allow manual entry of a patient's blood group.  A blood group can only be stored from a pathology result from a valid pathology provider.

Rh negative blood groups are stored in a green colour on the clinical profile screen. This is to assist with antenatal care.

The result item where the blood group is found is highlighted in the grid.

You can double click any result to view it in a separate form.
The form displays the result details, the request name, doctor details and the patient name.
The grid displays the list of results.

If any of the results are abnormal because they fall outside the reference range then the status is flagged in red on top as shown in the image above.

The abnormal result is also marked in red in the result grid.

  Options in Pathology Result:

   Scrolling through the results

You can scroll through the pathology results by using the up and down buttons.

   Viewing Clinical Profile

The clinical profile of any patient can be opened by clicking the open clinical profile button on the pathology form. From here, once the clinical profile has been opened, then further actions can be taken straight away concerning the pathology result.

For example:

  • prescribe a drug
  • order another test
  • create a recall
  • enter encounter notes

   Mark the result as seen

   My Notes

   Change Patient

If you want to change the system patient associated with the download, you can do so by clicking the change patient button.

   Discuss

Clicking the discuss button will change the status of the result to discuss. Again, a system patient has to be associated with the result. If no system patient is associated with the result then the patient search screen will be displayed.
If the discuss button is checked then the result is copied to the Followup tray.

  Recall

Clicking the recall button will allow you to save a recall for the patient. Recalls are discussed in detail in the clinical profile section. If no system patient is associated with the result and you click the recall button, then the patient search screen will be displayed.
If the recall button is checked then the result is copied to the Followup tray.

All pathology results which are marked as seen and saved, will be removed from the intray.  Those results are then found in the patient's clinical profile in the pathology results section.  There is no way to remove a result back to the Intray from the patient's clinical profile. Results marked DICUSS or RECALL are moved to the Follow-up Tray.
