To simultaneously gray out (disable) and mark a command's menu label

  1. Click Tools tab Customization panel User Interface . At the command prompt, enter cui.
  2. In the Customize User Interface Editor, Customize tab, in the Customizations In <file name> pane, click the plus sign (+) next to the menu that contains the command you want to disable and mark.
  3. Click the command you want to gray out and mark.
  4. In the Properties pane, in the Name field, add a tilde, an exclamation point, and a period (~!. or !.~) at the beginning of the command.
  5. Click OK.
